The centre feels obvious until it is looked for.

It seems to be the one thinking, choosing, watching. The one to whom everything happens.

Nearly all inward struggle is organised around that assumption. The self is defended, improved, purified, spiritualised, and carried forward under different names. Even awakening is often imagined as something that will finally happen to it.

But the centre has a weakness.
