The Need for Elsewhere

What is deepest is often kept at a distance for a reason.

The sense of separation does not remain only because it is believed. It remains because something in the self still needs the distance. Not because truth is far away, but because distance preserves the one who seeks.

This is why seeing is not yet surrender.

The old movement continues, not because the seeing was false, but because the distance was still serving someone.

Elsewhere is one of the self’s last refuges.

It keeps truth over there so longing can remain central here.
It keeps peace in the future so effort can remain justified now.
It keeps silence behind experience so a watcher can remain in place between life and what is deepest.

It is needed.
